Certified DBT Therapist Danely Johnson, LCSW-C

Gladstone Psychiatry and Wellness is proud to announce that Danely Johnson, LCSW-C has been named a DBT-Linehan Board of Certification (DBT-LBC) certified clinicianTM! Being a certified DBT therapist means that Danely has been independently evaluated by the board and proven that her work meets their high national standards for providing DBT therapy in the manner that was intended by Marsha Linehan, Ph.D., the founder of DBT.

This is a rare and distinctive achievement. There are a little over 500 certified DBT therapists in the entire world.

DBT therapist certification is a rigorous process. It involves intensive training in DBT, mindfulness training and practice, demonstrated success in helping clients achieve treatment goals, submission of session recordings, and a written exam. DBT certification is a commitment to fidelity to DBT and a demonstration of excellence.

“We are very proud of Danely,” says Christina White, LCPC, DBT-LBC, Co-Director of Gladstone’s DBT Program. “Her dedication to DBT and her clients makes her a joy to work with and an amazing asset to the team.”

Danely Johnson, LCSW-C–Certified DBT Therapist

Danely Johnson has been a part of the Gladstone DBT team since August of 2021. She works with both adolescents and adults in Gladstone’s Frederick office and via telehealth. She first began working as a DBT therapist while employed at a residential treatment center for adolescents, and quickly fell in love with the modality.

“I enjoy DBT because the skills are practical,” says Danely. “I truly feel that DBT skills can be used by anyone and could be helpful to all, not just those that struggle with emotion regulation.”

Danely shared the reasons that she put the time and effort into becoming certified. “DBT is an evidence-based treatment. I feel it’s important for clinicians to achieve LBC certification so that the treatment is being implemented as designed. This treatment can be very helpful.”

She also has some advice for people seeking DBT treatment. “DBT is effective and it is also demanding- both are true. My advice to people seeking DBT treatment is to believe that you are doing the best you can at any given moment. Sometimes your best is making it through the day; sometimes your best is picking up the phone and making that first appointment.”

DBT at Gladstone Psychiatry and Wellness

With this designation, Danely joins three of her Gladstone DBT colleagues. Gladstone is proud to share that our team has four certified DBT therapists, more than any other program in Maryland.

In addition, our program has earned the distinction of being a DBT-Linehan Board of Certification certified programTM. This means that we have been independently evaluated by the board and determined to deliver DBT in alignment with the evidence-based research established by Dr. Linehan and her colleagues.
