Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) in Maryland

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is an innovative treatment offered at Gladstone Psychiatry and Wellness. Combining psychotherapy with a series of ketamine administrations, KAP has been demonstrated to be an effective approach for treating depression, anxiety, PTSD, and other mental health conditions for some. By pairing ketamine’s therapeutic effects with psychotherapeutic support, it may help patients achieve long-lasting improvements in mood and behavior.

Important Note: Gladstone does not prescribe Ketamine outside of our comprehensive KAP program. Full participation, including preparation and integration therapy, is essential to ensure safety and effectiveness. All dosing is conducted on-site under the careful supervision of our licensed KAP treatment team. A la carte services are not available.

How does Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy work?

KAP uses ketamine to create non-ordinary states of consciousness, allowing individuals to explore deeper insights and break free from habitual patterns of thought. Supported by a KAP trained team, patients receive the psychological support needed to promote deeper and more durable changes than ketamine alone. Through assessment, preparation, dosing, and integration sessions, KAP provides a structured, supportive, and safe environment for achieving growth and resilience.

What’s involved in a KAP program?

The KAP program at Gladstone includes several phases:

  • Pre-screening: Application review and a brief phone consultation.
  • Screening: There are 3 parts to the screening process to ensure that KAP is an appropriate treatment for you:
    • Advanced Screening, a comprehensive psychological assessment
    • KAP Medical Evaluation
    • KAP Therapy Evaluation
  • Preparation: Three therapy sessions to prepare you for the ketamine experience.
  • Dosing: Six medically supervised ketamine dosing sessions (2.5–3 hours each) with support of your KAP therapist at all times.
  • Integration: Follow-up therapy sessions to process and integrate the ketamine experiences you will have.

Is KAP right for you?

KAP may be beneficial for individuals ages 18 and up struggling with treatment-resistant depression, PTSD, and other mental health conditions. It is especially effective for those seeking a deeper understanding of themselves and a path to healthier thought patterns.

However, it is not suitable for all individuals. Our prescreening process will determine if KAP is likely to be of benefit to you.

**Patients must be 18 or older to participate in KAP.
