“I am a different person, not fighting my depression and anxiety everyday. I can think clearly, positive internal monolog rather than the thoughts that used to come to my mind. These sessions built my self confidence, helped with my procrastination. I have nothing but glowing, positive remarks about the program and staff.”

What is TMS?

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a safe and effective medical treatment used to treat certain psychiatric disorders, including various forms of depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). TMS is particularly beneficial when other treatments have been unsuccessful.

What to expect during treatment

Initial Consultation: We begin with a thorough assessment to determine if TMS is the right treatment for you. This includes a review of your medical history, current symptoms, and treatment goals. The pre-screening occurs over the phone with our TMS administrator.  If you are eligible for TMS, then a full medical assessment with a Psychiatrist or Nurse Practitioner will occur.

Treatment Sessions:  A clinician conducts an initial mapping session in which the precise treatment location and intensity is prescribed. Subsequent sessions are with the TMS technician who administers your treatment. You will remain comfortably seated in a reclining chair, as the staff position the TMS wand against your scalp where the therapeutic pulses are delivered.  Sessions last 16-36 minutes, occur daily, and conclude after 5-6  weeks.

Follow-Up Care: We monitor your progress throughout your treatment and provide follow-up care to ensure lasting benefits.

What conditions can TMS treat?

TMS is primarily used to treat Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), especially in cases where traditional treatments have not been effective. However, it has also shown promise in treating:

Anxiety Disorders
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Smoking Cessation

At Gladstone, we are currently able to provide TMS for Major depression, particularly treatment resistant depression.

Is TMS right for you?

TMS is an excellent option for individuals who:

Have not found relief from depression through medication or therapy.
Prefer a non-invasive treatment with minimal side effects.
Are looking for an effective alternative to antidepressant medication.
