What does it take to be well in mind, body, and spirit? For Dr. Coleen Schrepfer, the answer is rarely one thing. Nutrition, sleep, exercise, purposeful daily activity, connection with community, serving others, time in nature, and mindfulness practices all matter, and together they form the foundation of her approach to care. Healing takes time, but with support, medication, and therapy, change is achievable. Since joining Gladstone Psychiatry and Wellness in 2018, she has cared for children, adolescents, and young adults, and she now serves as the practice’s Chief Medical Officer. She is board-certified in both adult and child/adolescent psychiatry.
Long before she became a psychiatrist, Dr. Coleen was a pediatric physical therapist, working alongside infants and children in critical care and rehabilitation settings. Those years taught her to see the whole child, not just the diagnosis, and to appreciate how much families carry when someone they love is struggling. That perspective still guides how she practices today, more than 16 years into her work with young people. She earned her medical degree at Drexel University College of Medicine and trained at Mount Sinai-BI and the University of Maryland.
Dr. Coleen takes a thoughtful, evidence-based approach to medication, but she knows that medication alone is rarely the whole answer. Alongside prescribing, she works with patients and families to build the daily habits and supportive relationships that help people thrive and get back to the life they want to be living. Many of her patients and families have been with her for years, and those lasting relationships are what she treasures most about her work.
As Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Coleen has helped bring new possibilities to patients who haven’t found relief through traditional approaches. She has led the development of Gladstone’s Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) program, its medically supervised weight management program, and its ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) program. Behind each of these programs is a simple conviction: no one should be told they have run out of options.
